NAVIGATION RESTRICTION

Murray River, Echuca
‘SOUTHERN 80’ WATER SKI RACE
6:00am to 7:00pm - Saturday 7 & Sunday 8 February 2015

THE EVENT

Vessel operators are advised that Roads and Maritime Services has declared that the above event, which is to be held on the Murray River at Echuca between 6:00am and 7:00pm on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 February 2015, is a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998.

SPECIAL EVENT & EXCLUSIVE USE AREA

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Roads and Maritime has granted an Exclusive Use Aquatic Licence to the Moama Water Sports Club Ltd. to conduct the event and a Special Event/Exclusive Use Area (‘the Area’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Murray River Echuca between the above times. The Area will be CLOSED to all unauthorised navigation and comprises:

Saturday 7 February 2015

  • from the 1690km River Marker at Perricoota Marina, Goldsborough Road, Moama, upstream to the 1712km River Marker at Victoria Park Echuca;

Sunday 8 February 2015

  • from the Torrumbarry Weir upstream to the 1712km River Marker at the Victoria Park Boat Ramp at Echuca.

Control vessels will be in place at each end of the course to advise vessel operators of the River closure.

Vessels lawfully moored within the Area must remain at their moorings and MUST NOT be operated during the event.

All houseboats are required to be moored parallel to the river bank, in a safe location well away from bends and corners. Failure to do this will delay the race.

In the interests of public safety, occupants of moored vessels are strongly urged to vacate their vessels during the event, and if they wish to view the race, to do so from shore.

Due to the high speeds involved in the event, Roads and Maritime urges all spectators to exercise extreme caution when near the Area. Be aware of approaching race vessels and of your escape route in case of an emergency.

Do not swim along or across the river as it is inherently dangerous and will cause the race to stop. more
